Office XP
Unfortunately Office XP won't install in Wine, (well I couldn't get it to install). I tried several different approaches and never got quite there, I did get to the point of where the Office install was about to start coping files but it consistently crashed on advapi.dll So I reverted to installing Office XP in CrossOver Office and then tar.gz up the bottle and copied it over to BSD. Once again we need Linux and CrossOver to get Office on BSD working. And as before this is not the optimal way of running Office on BSD, as it has out side dependencies that many BSD users don't have or would prefer not to have.
Once you have the CrossOver Office XP bottle on your BSD system just replace your original .wine directory with it, Word and Excel will run but there is one very nasty bug that keeps Word from being usable.
When you try to save a newly created document Word will crash because the Wine menubuilder cant create a .LNK file for the original document. Word will however create the document it just crashes while creating it. I was able to view the three test documents that I have here without any problems. If you edit a document when it's time to save changes Word will crash as before with the menubuilder error.
Excel works a lot better as the menubuilder will create .LNK files, so I didn't have any of the crashes that were so prevalent in Word.
PowerPoint will start, but locks up as soon as I try to do anything with it....
- Word: Can View files, create and editing of files crashes menubuilder.
- Excel: works about as good as Excel 2000
PowerPoint: Will start but then hard locks
