Wine AppDB entry:
Wine's bugzilla entry for Lotus Notes:
(These notes below should be in the Wine AppDB, but are not all yet. )
Running Lotus Notes on Wine
IBM has announced a native Linux version of Lotus Notes, which is great. But there are still some reasons to run the Windows version of Notes on Wine:
- the native version doesn't include Designer and Administrator tools
- the native version seems to have significantly higher system requirements
- some sites require an older release of Notes
- there is no free downloadable trial of the native version
Work was done by by Stefan Siebert, James Hawkins, Hans Leidekker, and Pedro Chaves to greatly improved Wine's support for Lotus Notes. As of wine-0.9.19 can install and run the Lotus Notes 6.0, 6.5, and 7 Windows clients without any special effort. Here are full instructions on how to install Notes trial version:
Download and install wine-0.9.33 (or anything between 0.9.19 and 0.9.33)
- Run the Notes trial installer with the commandline "wine c84w1na.exe"
- Now run Notes with the commandline "wine $HOME/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/lotus/notes/nlnotes.exe"
- If that works, create a launcher icon that runs the above commandline to make it easier to start Notes
That's it! Please let us know how it works for you by sending a note to the wine-users mailing list
Known Issues
Wine versions 0.9.34, 0.9.35, and 0.9.36 have known problems. Stick with 0.9.33 (0.9.37 and later might be ok, I haven't tested yet.)
There are several known issues, but the main one seems to be that Notes 7 may hang on File / Preferences / User Preferences To work around this, copy oleacc.dll and oleaccrc.dll from your Windows partition to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32, then use winecfg to set a library override for oleacc.dll, or run Notes with WINEDLLOVERRIDES="oleacc=n" wine "C:\Program Files\lotus\notes\nlnotes.exe"

We should make an effort to get the outdated/stale ones updated or removed. At the very least, move them to the wine appdb.
