A little about me...

I'm a 19 year-old college student from Las Vegas. I started with computers when I was about five when my Dad introduced me to DOS and Windows 3.x. I began programming at age 9 with VB. Since then I've dabbled in quite a few things. I played around with HTML a little. A few years later I learned C++ and started messing around with the Win32 APIs, just trying to figure out how to do something interesting. I'm also playing around with assmebly (x86,) especially software reverse engineering. I got into Linux about a year ago, primarily because I was sick of MS (who isn't these days :) ?) I first came across WINE when I found a really old version on a copy of KNOPPIX that I downloaded. I tested it by firing up a simple solitare game I wrote a few years back. Ever since then I was hooked. I installed Linux on my machine and began to learn it. Right now I'm trying to learn as much as I can about Linux programming, mostly by contributing to programs that I like (Wine included.)

Things I'd like to do with WINE:

  • Get Palm Desktop and Hotsync to work so I can use Windows conduits

Everything I know about running Palm Desktop and Hotsync 4.1 on Wine

  2. Running Hotsync

News & Updates

August 17, 2005

Sorry for the lack of updates for a while. I've been doing some heavy debugging work and have added a lot more information about the MFC problem in Running Palm Desktop. I also did some major cleanups in Running Hotsync.

August 4, 2005

Added some behavioral comparisons between Wine and Windows XP dealing with the MFC crash in Running Palm Desktop.

August 1, 2005

I've had some success with getting a USB based Palm to work. I've also got some more information about USB-serial devices for those of you with those type of devices. See the Running Hotsync page for details.

July 25, 2005

Added some stuff about getting a real serial-port based Palm to work on Wine to the Hotsync page. It does work, with some caveats. Also added some more info about the MFC crash in Running Palm Desktop.

July 12, 2005, 9 P.M -0700

I had some assembly dumps on the Palm Desktop page, but took them down on advice from people in the project for legal reasons.

July 12, 2005

Added some more stuff about Palm Desktop, including:

  • A WinMM patch from Uwe Bonnes

See the Running Palm Desktop page for more info.

July 11, 2005

Today I began setting up my wiki on here to chronicle my adventures in getting Palm Desktop and Hotsync to work with my USB cradle and a Tungsten T. I'll bet many are wondering why I'm even trying to do this, seeing as pilot-link based programs like gnome-pilot and kpilot work fine for most stuff. Those programs are great for the basics, but they don't sync voice memos. With September fast approaching, I'd also like to be able to like to be able to use a program called Documents To Go, an excellent app that came with my Palm that works with MS office files. It was an indispensible tool for things like note-taking, but it only works on Windows, so here I am... :)
